WeberGrill recipes: Homemade pomegranate-ginger apple cider
Serves 6-8
Ingredients
- Fresh apples, 8-10 quartered. You can use a mix of tart and sweet (i.e., Granny Smith, Gala and Red Delicious).I’m using all Gala apples for a sweet cider.
- Fresh orange, 1 quartered with peel on
- Fresh ginger, 2 tablespoons minced
- Whole cloves, 2 tablespoons
- Pomegranate, 1 seeded
- Water, 16 cups
- Brown sugar, 1 cup
- Cinnamon sticks,6-8
Kitchen tools
- 6-quart pot with lid
- Slotted spoon
- Fine mesh strainer, cheesecloth straining bag or straining pouch
Apple Cider Directions
1. Add the apples and orange in a 6-qt pot on the Weber Summit Grill’s side burner.
2. Add the minced ginger, whole cloves and pomegranate seeds directly into the pot to strain out later.
*Pro tip:I prefer to add these ingredients inside a straining pouch to easily lift out the remains later. With a bag strainer, you don’t have to mince the ginger or thoroughly seed the pomegranate. Just slice and drop into the strainer bag!
3. Cover the apples with water, leaving about an inch or two of space at the top of the pot.
4. Heat the cider over high heat until it reaches a simmer.
5. Reduce the heat to medium-low.
6. Cover and simmer for about 2 hours, or until the apples are completely soft.
7. Using a slotted spoon, remove all of the solids (apples, oranges, spices), pressing them against the strainer to release all of their juices. Use a fine mesh strainer to strain out any smaller apple or orange pieces.
(*If you also used a strainer bag- simply remove the bag!)
8. Stir in the brown sugar.
9. Cover and let the cider simmer for 15-20 minutes.
10. Serve warm & enjoy!
*Optional-After you pour the cider into mugs or tumblers, garnish with a fresh apple slice and a cinnamon stick!
